About Mary Evans Music
My name is Mary Evans. I was born in Ebbw Vale and have lived in Carmarthen since 1992. I practice law and until recently I managed my own practice – Mary Evans Solicitors. While I am a busy solicitor and enjoy my work, I have always made time for the things I enjoy, especially my music.
I can be flexible with my time to ensure I am able to take your booking (subject to availability).
I started playing the piano at 3 years of age and began playing the organ for church services at the age of 14, and finally I took up playing the harp in 1988. I have since acquired a number of harps including 2 concert harps, a Grecian harp, a triple harp and a Clarsach .
In 2009 I gained my grade 8 in harp and I had a distinction in grade 8 for organ in 2010. I am constantly working to learn new repertoire and improve my performance.
I gained my ALCM for a piano performance in 2001 and completed my CertRCO (Royal Collage of Organists) in 2014. I am currently working towards my ARCO. Until recently I studied with Anne Marsden Thomas in London but now have lessons with Gerdi Troskie in Worcester.
In recent years I have done several organ recitals in:
- St Peter’s Church, Carmarthen (2011 – 2015)
- Jerusalem, Burry port (2011)
- St Gabriel’s, Bryn Mill Swansea (2013)
- Sacret Heart, Morriston (2014 and 2015)
- St Catherine’ s Church, Gorseinon (2014 and 2015)
- Lampeter College Chapel (2015)
I have recently done a harp recital in King St Gallery, Carmathen (December 2015) and I have played the harp for many charitable events, including the ‘Light Still Shines’ annual service at the Botanical Gardens.
Throughout 2015 and 2016 I have enjoyed attending Robin Huw Bowen’s workshops to celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of John Roberts the famous Gypsy harpist, to create enough Welsh Gypsy harpists to give performances of Welsh Gypsy music during 2016. To find out more, visit: www.telynor.cymru
